Weight Management

ACE-Certified Weight Management Specialist

Ask any personal trainer what goal more of their clients have as their number one priority - more than all other goals combined - and they will all say weight-loss.

Yet, of all the goal-based training programs offered by personal trainers, weight-loss is unique. Whereas most training modalities (i.e., muscle mass, body sculpting, etc.) employ a dose-response protocol, weight-loss requires a commitment on the part of the client that transcends his or her sessions with their trainer.

In this regard, trainers must have a commitment to their clients’ weight-loss goal and be knowledgeable about the realities of weight-loss, and not just focus on strength training, with some one-size-fits-all generic advice about eating fewer calories than you burn, and burning more calories by exercising, thrown in to sound good.

I specialize in helping obese clients who, despite following all the boilerplate diet and exercise protocols, find it either impossible to lose but a few pounds of weight, or to keep it off once they do.

This kind of weight loss resistance is often a manifestation of insulin resistance. Reversing insulin resistance so that the body will begin releasing its accumulated fat stores has more to do with what you eat than how much you eat, and exercise protocols which refresh and increase your muscles mitochondrial density. Mitochondria are the cells that actually burn calories during physical activity. Only proper exercise selection, intensity, and frequency will get the job done.

In my practice, I view myself as my clients’ weight-loss partner. I don’t just train them using appropriate weight-loss modalities during their paid sessions, I design a complete program which includes cardio training and, within my scope of practice boundaries, nutritional information, and helpful tips that contribute to their success.

Also, as part of my weight-loss training programs, I include a free body composition (e.g., body-fat %) analysis and critical anatomical measurements to create both realistic goals and baseline data for measuring progress.

Most people hate cardio. However, cardiovascular training is an essential component of weight-loss training. But cardio training doesn’t need to be that boring, monotonous thing that many people dread. I teach my clients how to make their cardio sessions fun, and how to get the most out them in a shorter amount of time. In fact, many of my clients join me for my own personal cardio sessions, which is free.
